Greenbelt Alliance's 50th Anniversary Celebration
(Tickets will be available in July.)
Anniversary Party
Join us on Wednesday, September 10 at
the Herbst International Exhibition Center
in
the Presidio,
San
Francisco, as we celebrate 50 years of protecting open spaces and creating vibrant places.
As part of our celebration, we will have a multimedia presentation of people and places, and we will revive the much-loved Taste of the Greenbelt event, which will highlight the creations of Bay Area farmers, chefs, and vintners.
50 Years of Success
Since 1958, Greenbelt Alliance has:
- Protected 1.1 million acres
of open space around the Bay Area. Places we've helped protect include Angel Island, the Marin Headlands, San
Pablo Reservoir,
Fort Funston, the San Mateo coast, Napa
vineyards, Santa Clara County farmland — and many more.
- Helped create urban growth boundaries in
25 cities and 5 counties, to keep development off the greenbelt.
- Endorsed the
creation of 60,000 new homes in existing cities
around the Bay Area.
- Launched crucial Bay Area organizations, including the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council and the Bay Area Open Space
Council.
- Published award-winning
reports, including At
Risk: The Bay Area Greenbelt, the Bay Area Smart Growth Scorecard, The
Sustainable Metropolis, Room Enough, and Beyond Sprawl.
Looking Ahead
In the next 25 years, the
San Francisco Bay Area will become home to 1.7 million
additional people. Greenbelt Alliance will continue working
to
ensure that this growth enables the Bay Area to thrive.
