Greenbelt Alliance staff work to protect the Bay Area's open space and make the region's communities better places to live, from offices in San Francisco, San Rafael, Santa Rosa, Walnut Creek, and San Jose.

Jeremy Madsen, Executive Director

As Executive Director, Jeremy Madsen sets and implements the organization's strategic goals and manages its operations. He is the leader of Greenbelt Alliance's policy and advocacy efforts to protect the Bay Area's open spaces and promote the creation of vibrant urban places.

Jeremy comes to Greenbelt Alliance from The San Francisco Foundation, where he helped to launch the Great Communities Collaborative and supported social equity, affordable housing, and smart growth efforts around the Bay Area. From 2001 to 2005, Jeremy was Greenbelt Alliance's Field Director, leading the organization's policy campaigns and supervising the work of all its field offices. Previously, Jeremy served as Field Director for Washington state’s Transportation Choices Coalition, coordinated fair trade campaigns for the Washington, DC-based Citizens Trade Campaign, and ran get-out-the-vote efforts for candidate and ballot measure campaigns. Janeen Jackson, Executive Assistant

Responsible for comprehensive administrative support for the Executive Director and programmatic support as needed. Serves as a point of contact for those needing to reach the Executive Director. Amanda Brown-Stevens, Deputy Director
Responsible for directing the coordination of local and regional efforts to protect open space and create livable communities throughout the nine-county Bay Area. Works with citizens, elected officials, and diverse groups through grassroots organizing, coalition building, policy analysis, political strategizing and advocacy. Michele Beasley, Senior Field Representative

Ellie Casson, Field Representative
Responsible for developing teams of engaged advocates for sustainable land-use planning in cities throughout Silicon Valley. Builds new relationships with community leaders and organizations that work with many different demographic groups in Santa Clara and San Mateo  Counties. Marla Wilson, Sustainable Development Associate
Responsible for coordinating the Compact Development Endorsement Program and the Livable Communities Outreach Program. These programs advocate for individual developments and plans that create livable communities and educate residents and decision-makers about the benefits of creating livable communities. Works with local residents, elected officials, and diverse groups through grassroots organizing, outreach, and advocacy. Adam Garcia, Policy Researcher
Responsible for implementing Greenbelt Alliance’s agenda-setting research projects, as well as conducting research, public policy analysis, and mapping services to support Greenbelt Alliance’s land-use advocacy campaigns. Sara Barz, Online Communications Manager

Ernie Notar, Development Director
Directs the Development department of Greenbelt Alliance, overseeing major donor, foundation, and membership programs. Previously directed development efforts for programs at educational institutions including the University of Maryland and the University of California at Berkeley. B.A., English, Dartmouth College. Lopamudra Pal, Donor Relations Officer

Ken Lavin, Outings and Volunteer Coordinator

Evan Lovett-Harris, Membership and Database Manager
Evan Lovett-Harris, long passionate about creating healthy and livable communities, loves the cultural and biological diversity of the Bay Area. Formerly the Director of Community Outreach at the non-profit bicycle shop, Changing Gears, and a Program Director at Cycles of Change, Evan is committed to connecting local residents with opportunities to engage with their communities. He can often be found biking with friends around the Bay Area. B.A. in Latin American Studies and Studio Art from Oberlin College. email Evan.

Administration

Edward Lee, Director of Finance and Administration
Ed Lee has extensive experience in nonprofit management, most recently at Public Advocates Inc., which works on a variety of equity issues including affordable housing and public transit.  Over his 17 year career, he has worked with social justice organizations including Californians for Justice, the Center for Third World Organizing, and the Korean Community Center of the East Bay, as well as the Tides Foundation and the Contra Costa Child Care Council. In 2003, Ed served as statewide coordinator of the successful No on Proposition 54 campaign, defeating a ban on state and local government collecting or using information related to race and ethnicity. He has also served on a number of nonprofit boards. Formerly an Emergency Medical Technician, Ed holds an M.A. in Physiology from Boston University and B.A. in Psychology from Oberlin College. email Ed
