“New Farm” a hot topic at Contra Costa County candidates forum

On Thursday evening over 90 people braved thunder and lightning for an electrifying County Supervisor Candidates Forum on environmental issues held in San Ramon.

Rossmoor resident Paul de Benedictis gave the event a glowing endorsement. “It was very informative and the issues were well-covered, with some refreshing elements. We’re glad that we braved the lousy weather for it.”

Greenbelt Alliance co-hosted the event with Save Mount Diablo, Sierra Club, League of Conservation Voters of the East Bay, and the California Native Plant Society.

The future of the county’s open space was a hot topic throughout the night, with in-depth discussions about the county’s voter-approved urban limit lines and the New Farm subdivision, proposed outside the limit lines in the Tassajara Valley. The candidates also squared off on how to keep agricultural lands economically resilient in the face of development pressures, opportunities for new homes near transit, integrated pest management, Delta water politics, climate change, industrial pollution, and more.

Enough talk about it, see how the candidates answered for yourself:
