Magnificent Maguire Peaks

This moderately paced hike to Maguire Peaks offers spectacular views of San Antonio reservoir, Mt. Diablo, and Mission Peak. Maguire Peaks are composed of fossiliferous sandstone from an ancient inland sea that covered the Bay area 15 million years ago. The sea is gone, but be prepared for cold winds and mud.

How to get there:

Take Hwy 680 to the Calaveras Rd exit in Sunol. Turn south on Calaveras Rd to Geary Rd. following signs to Sunol Regional Wilderness. Go left on Geary to the park entrance. Carpool: Meet leader at Walnut Creek BART at 8:00 am; no-host carpool at Rockridge BART at 7:45 am.
