Bay Area Bike Share has arrived

On August 29, 2013, Bay Area Bike Share launched in five Bay Area cities: San Francisco, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Mountain View, and San Jose. According to SPUR, 80% of jobs are within three miles of Caltrain or BART—an easy bike ride. Bike Share is an amazing first step towards solving the first and last mile connection in these cities along the Caltrain corridor.

San Jose has a plethora of bike stations in and around downtown, including at Diridon Station. One of Greenbelt Alliance’s goals for our work around Diridon Station is for the area to have streets that are safe and accessible for cyclists and pedestrians. With Bay Area Bike Share now in full swing and the San Fernando Bikeway soon under construction, this vision is on its way to becoming a reality thanks to the efforts of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, City of San Jose, and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.

Rates to join Bay Area Bike Share are $88 for an annual pass, $22 for a three-day pass, and $9 for a day pass. Each pass allows for unlimited trips during the membership period, with no additional cost for the first 30 minutes of each trip. Trips that exceed 30 minutes will incur surcharges.
