Greenbelt Alliance Endorsed Project Green-Lit in San Mateo

It’s official—San Mateo is getting some much-needed new homes. After many years of planning and delays, the Station Park Green mixed-use development has been unanimously approved by the San Mateo City Council. It breaks ground in three months.

Station Park Green concept artThis Greenbelt Alliance Endorsed project will create 600 new homes and a combined 45,000 square feet of office and retail space. Station Park Green is an outstanding reflection of smart infill development—that’s why we endorsed it.

Here are some of our favorite things about the project:

  • Creates a variety of housing choices, including affordable homes, near the Hayward Park Caltrain Station
  • Includes nearly 2 acres of public open space
  • Creates a model environment for people who walk or bike
  • Supports a shuttle service and car-sharing program

Greenbelt Alliance actually endorsed the original Station Park Green proposal, which was approved by the City Council, several years ago, but the developers had to postpone the project. They came back with a revised proposal, which we reviewed using our updated endorsement criteria, and ultimately also endorsed.

We are excited to follow the progress of this smart investment toward improving the quality of life in the City of San Mateo. Read more about Station Park Green.
