Compact Development Endorsement Team Internship |
Greenbelt Alliance is seeking a highly motivated individual with a background in urban planning, smart growth and/or transit-oriented development for an internship with our Compact Development Endorsement Team in San Francisco.
About Greenbelt Alliance
Greenbelt Alliance is the Bay Area's land conservation and urban planning nonprofit.
Our mission is to make the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area a better place
to live by protecting the region's greenbelt and improving its cities and
towns. Since 1958, Greenbelt Alliance has helped to permanently protect over
1 million acres of the Bay Area’s natural areas and working farms.
About the Compact Development Endorsement Team
The Compact Development Team endorses and supports residential, mixed-use and
commercial developments that are pedestrian oriented, transit accessible, use
land efficiently, and provide affordable housing. The volunteer team is comprised
of architects, planners, housing advocates, and other interested citizens,
who meet monthly to review and vote on projects.
Responsibilities
The Compact Development Endorsement Team Intern will assist the Livable Communities
Outreach Coordinator with administrative needs related to the Compact Development
Endorsement team. This work includes assisting with project reviews, communicating
with local developers, maintaining our database of endorsed compact development
projects, corresponding with the volunteer team and writing project summaries.
Commitment
This internship requires a 10-20 hour per week commitment, for a minimum of 3
months. Working hours are flexible; most work will be completed between 9am
and 5pm weekdays, some evenings and weekends are required. Most work takes
place in the Greenbelt Alliance main office in downtown San Francisco. This
location is BART and MUNI accessible and public transportation is strongly
encouraged. Interns may be asked to conduct site visits throughout the Bay
Area, access to a motor vehicle will be helpful. This position is unpaid.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a background in urban planning, smart-growth
development, land-use and/or environmental issues. Interns must have strong
attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, a good
sense of humor, and a high level of responsibility. Candidates must also
be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
