CAMPAIGNS DIRECTOR
Full-time position

Greenbelt Alliance, the San Francisco Bay Area’s advocate for open spaces and vibrant places, seeks an experienced candidate for the position of Campaigns Director based in San Francisco.

Position Summary
The Campaigns Director will manage Greenbelt Alliance’s innovative and effective Field Program.  Specifically, this position will manage four field offices, four full time staff and, as needed, project-specific staff.

Through our Field Program – with offices in Santa Rosa, San Rafael, Walnut Creek, and San Jose – Greenbelt Alliance provides leadership in land use advocacy throughout the Bay Area.  The Campaigns Director works with field staff to develop and implement campaigns to protect open space and create vibrant places throughout the Bay Area. 

Some examples of current and recent campaigns include:

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in grassroots organizing, political strategy, staff management, and an interest in policies that promote smart growth and open space protection.  The Campaigns Director reports to the Director of Programs.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Development:  The Campaigns Director shapes the Greenbelt Alliance Field Program to ensure permanent protection of open space resources, creation of affordable, infill housing opportunities and enhancement of the region’s quality of life.  The Campaigns Director oversees – and engages in – targeted advocacy efforts to pass land use polices in cities and counties, defeat irresponsible sprawl development proposals and promote smart growth, infill development. 

Staff Management:  The Campaigns Director commits significant time to each member of the field staff.  Through systematic communications, monthly meetings, site visits, and regular evaluations, the Campaigns Director develops the skills and ensures the effectiveness of the field staff.  The Campaigns Director is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training field staff.

Regional Advocacy:  The Campaigns Director plays a leadership role in regional campaigns to make the Bay Area a better place to live, as necessary.  The Campaigns Director also actively works to build other coalitions with a broad range of constituencies.

Organizational Coordination:  The Campaigns Director is part of the organizational leadership team and works closely with other senior staff in the program department (Policy, Communications, and Field) to support campaigns and Greenbelt Alliance priorities.  For example, the Campaigns Director will work with the Policy Directors on a research agenda and with the Communications Director to generate media coverage of field campaigns.  The Campaigns Director will also coordinate with the Development Director and Executive Director as necessary.

Qualifications:

The ideal Campaigns Director candidate will be a proven and effective advocate with a bachelor’s degree plus five years experience – or relevant master’s plus three years experience – in the following:

Salary and Benefits

Salary depends on experience. Medical and dental insurance provided as well as short-term disability, flexible spending, and 403(b) accounts. Generous vacation package.
