East Bay Media Relations Intern


Greenbelt Alliance is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in media or public relations, communications, and/or environmental and land use issues for an internship in our East Bay Office in Walnut Creek.

Greenbelt Alliance is the Bay Area's leading land conservation and urban planning nonprofit. Our mission is to make the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area a better place to live by protecting the region's greenbelt and improving the livability of its cities and towns. Since 1958, we have been active across the nine-county region protecting open space, opposing sprawl, and promoting smart growth. We have helped save over 1.1 million acres of greenbelt and we're a leader in promoting regional solutions to the problems of sprawl. Our East Bay Office is located in Walnut Creek and focuses on land-use and public policy issues in Alameda and Contra Costa County.

Responsibilities
The Media Relation Intern will assist the East Bay Field Representative in media-related needs pertaining to Greenbelt Alliance's work in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. This will include assisting in the preparation of media releases and press conferences, monitoring local media outlets for articles related to Greenbelt Alliance's work, and maintaining a media database.

Commitment
This internship requires a 2 hour per week commitment, for a minimum of one month. Working hours are flexible, but must be completed between 9am and 5pm weekdays. Work takes place in the East Bay Office in Walnut Creek; this location is BART accessible and metered street parking is available. This position is unpaid.

Talents/Skills Wanted
The ideal candidate will have a background in media studies, communications, or public relations. Interest or experience in environmental and land-use issues is a plus. Interns must have strong attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, a good sense of humor, and a high level of responsibility. Candidates must also be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
