Burleigh Murray Ranch Walk

Rating: This is an easy walk of about 2 miles roundtrip. Participants can continue along the trail for a 6-mile round trip hike, if they desire.

Notes: Join us on this history and nature walk to view the venerable Mills Barn, built in the 1860’s in the style of an English Lake County Bank Barn, the only one of its type in California. The Park is the site of an old dairy farm. The Mills Barn is maintained in a condition of “arrested decay”. This historic structure dates back to the late 1860's and was originally 200 feet in length and capable of housing 100 dairy cows. The foundation of the barn and other buildings (including an un-reinforced arched stone bridge), rely on Italian masonry techniques dating back to Roman times.

What to bring: Water, snacks, good hiking shoes, dress in layers.

How to get there: From the intersection of Highways 1 and 92, go south on Highway 1 about 1.2 miles. Turn left (east) off Highway 1 onto Higgins-Purisma Road. Stay on this road for just over 1.5 miles to the park entrance. There is sign for the park, but it is off the road on the left. The leader will have a Greenbelt Alliance sign near the entrance. A small graveled parking area is located a short distance from the entrance to the park.
