Rating: This is a moderate hike of about 8 miles with over 1,000 feet in elevation gain.

Group: Open to all. Reservations are not required. Co-sponsored by the Sierra Club.

Notes: Enjoy a late autumn hike through oak and eucalyptus forests in the East Bay hills. Highlights include Lake Chabot, Chabot View, and the Cascade Trail. Be prepared for mud and lots of poison oak.

Rain Policy: Heavy rain cancels.

What to bring: Layered clothing, sun protection, sturdy hiking boots, lunch, snacks, and plenty of water (minimum two liters recommended).

How to get there:

Meet at 10:30 am at the Marciel Gate, Anthony Chabot Regional Park.

From the South, take Hwy 580 to the Redwood Rd exit in Castro Valley and go left several miles past the golf course to the Marciel Gate.

From the North, take Hwy 13 to Redwood Rd exit and go left to Redwood Rd / go south on Redwood Rd to Marciel Gate.

Carpool: Meet leader at Walnut Creek BART 9:15 am; No-host carpool at Rockridge BART 9:45 am.
