9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Rating: This is a moderate hike of about 4 miles with less than 1,000 feet in elevation gain. There will be some steep uphill and downhill climbs.
Group: Open to all.
Status: Reservations required.
Fees: $5 park entrance fee
Leader: Alexandra Fraser
Notes: Resident raptors and
waterfowl love Lynch Canyon. Come observe a variety of bird species, hopefully
including golden eagles, and learn about the human history of Lynch Canyon
from native people to the time of settlement. Docents from the Solano Land
Trust will provide their expertise about ornithology and history on this moderately
difficult but leisurely-paced 4-mile hike with about 1000 ft of elevation gain.
We'll hike along established access roads and trails, including a section of
the Bay Area Ridge Trail.
Lynch Canyon, which is owned by the Solano Land Trust, is operated in partnership
with Solano County Parks. This wild place offers more than 1,000 acres of green
grasslands and oak woodlands, including views of Mt. Diablo, the Marin Headlands,
and the Napa River Valley.
Rain Policy: Hike is cancelled in case of heavy rain.
What to bring: : Water, lunch, hiking shoes, and binoculars, if desired.
How to get there:
From I-80, between Fairfield and Vallejo, take the Hiddenbrooke/American
Canyon Exit. From the Hiddenbrooke side of I-80, go toward Sacramento on McGary
Road (parallel to I-80) about 1.5 miles, and turn left under I-80 onto Lynch
Road. Proceed through the gate at the end of the cul-de-sac and follow the unpaved
road to the gravel parking to meet the group near the kiosk.
