Mill Valley Cascades

Saturday, February 21
10 am to 2:30 pm

Rating: This is a moderate hike of about 5 miles with less than 1,000 feet in elevation gain. Although we will mostly be on city sidewalks and paved roads, there will be some walking on trails or over rocks.

Group: Open to all. Reservations required.

Status: SORRY, THIS OUTING IS FULL.

Fees: None.

Leader: Bob Johnson

Notes: Explore stairs, paths and attractive residential streets near historic downtown Mill Valley. We'll follow Cascade Creek upstream to see “three wells” (deep pools in the stream) and a lovely waterfall. Mill Valley preserves a handsome interface of developed and open space areas and is sometimes called a Swiss village in California.

Rain Policy: Hike is cancelled in case of heavy rain.

What to bring: : Lunch, water, rain gear if appropriate, good walking/hiking shoes, warm clothing.

How to get there:
We will meet at 10 AM at the small plaza just behind the Depot Bookstore and Café at the corner of Miller Ave and Throckmorton in downtown Mill Valley.

Driving directions: From Highway 101 take the Tiburon/E. Blithedale exit and head west on E. Blithedale; stay on this road through a few traffic lights and past a residential area until you come to the edge of the commercial area of downtown Mill Valley (a couple of miles from the 101 exit). Turn left on Throckmorton which angles off to the left and again angles a bit to the left after a block; drive through the center of downtown passing by the tall redwoods in the middle of the street where it widens. You will pass near our meeting place at the Depot Bookstore & Café. However, you should continue straight on through downtown on Throckmorton (most downtown parking areas have time limits-be sure to check the parking regulation signs carefully); cross Miller Ave and then drive several blocks further and park in the area near Old Mill Park. There are public restrooms in the park just down from the road. Walk a few blocks back to the meeting place.
