Santa Rosa Urban Growth Boundary

Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa voters first approved an Urban Growth Boundary in 1990 and passed a 20-year Urban Growth Boundary measure in 1996. In 2010, Greenbelt Alliance, along with a coalition of local nonprofits and community members, led a campaign to continue this important policy through 2035, the final year of the recently adopted Santa Rosa General Plan.

Foruntately, Santa Rosa voters agreed with the urban growth boundary and voted to renew it through 2035.

What's at Stake

An urban growth boundary is one of the best tools for stopping sprawl and protecting the open space and farmlands that surround our city. Santa Rosa is the largest city in the North Bay and extending the urban growth boundary will set a precedent for other cities as they review their own urban growth boundaries.
