Cloverdale Urban Growth Boundary

With slightly over 7,000 residents, Cloverdale is still a bucolic community,
bordered to the north by Mendocino County redwood forests and to the
south by the
breathtaking Alexander Valley. This may change in the coming years though.
With land prices that are relatively low compared to the rest of Sonoma
County, and a lack of growth management policies, sprawl development
threatens
to destroy the rural character of the Cloverdale area. .
In May 2009, the City updated its General Plan, which acts as the blueprint for growth for the next 20 years. By adopting a boundary, residents would
protect the community's rural character and surrounding hillsides from
sprawl development.
On Election Day 2010, Cloverdale became that last Sonoma city to adopt an urban growth boundary. Cloverdale residents voted 57% to 43% in favor of Measure Q, which will protect Cloverdale's unique character and open spaces.
