Greenbelt Alliance In the News
December 30, 2005 IN DEPTH: REPLAY 2005: YEAR IN REVIEW
Seeeno wins Pittsburg vote Katherine ConradHousing mogul Albert Seeno's name appeared nowhere on the Measure P ballot in Pittsburg. Nonetheless, the developer got his way in November when voters narrowly approved the measure. Measure P expands Pittsburg's boundaries by almost 1,400 acres and allows up to 1,400 homes to be built on 550 acres. To win support for the measure, Seeno crafted a deal with state Sen. Tom Torlakson, D-Antioch, that requires the developer to set aside land for a greenbelt along the Concord-Pittsburg border; to double the open space fee within the San Marco Hills project to $2,000 per house; and negotiate protections for 800 acres Seeno owns next to the Black Diamond Mines Regional Park. But environmentalists, who were not on board with the negotiations, expect those terms to go unenforced. Representatives for Save Mount Diablo, the Sierra Club and Greenbelt Alliance have all said legal action to stop the development is an option. kconrad@bizjournals.com 925-598-1427 ### |
