Urban limit line a topic of hot debate among writers

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

On right track

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is on the right track on the urban limit line. Supervisors know that traffic relief depends on growth management. They also know that it doesn't make sense to move the line until there is no more room for growth inside it.

Concord should apply the same logic to the Naval Weapons Station. The scenic and natural value of the base must be protected with more than mere rhetoric.

Although Concord's draft general plan identifies open space protection as a goal, the draft plan does nothing to mandate that protection.

Concord can realize most of its housing needs inside the city, reducing the traffic and quality of life impacts on its residents and saving one of Contra Costa County's treasures.

I urge Concord residents to contact their elected leaders and demand protection for this wonderful open space.
