A big step

Subheading

Letter to the Editor

Congratulations to the city of Vallejo for taking a meaningful step to address the need for more homes people can afford ("Vallejo may OK affordable housing," Nov. 6). Over the last few years, home prices in Vallejo have gone through the roof, leaving many families and workers behind.

New homes are being built in Vallejo, but many of them are too expensive compared to what people are earning. As a result, people like teachers, nurses and retail workers have to move farther and farther away to find homes they can afford. That increases pressure to develop working farms and natural areas and worsens traffic congestion. We need a solution.

Vallejoans are invited to help find that solution at Creating Housing Choices, an open house to learn about creating more housing options in Vallejo. The event will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 336 Georgia Street. Come on by to find out more.
