Bluegrass for the Greenbelt

Subheading

Kat Rentz

Like rap to hot asphalt or doom to an ancient forest, the twang and plucky cadence of bluegrass has its own signature landscape — wide breezy fields and hills of gold August grass, hillbilly mountains and violet horizons. No wonder local land conservation hero Greenbelt Alliance is celebrating 50 years with a fundraising minifest of banjos, fiddles, and mandolins, all outdoors in an Oakland meadow. Headliners Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands sing of seeking the fertile plains of the West, images that might've been relegated to country-song mythos were it not for Greenbelt's tireless advocacy, ensuring that the nine-county Bay Area region maintains one of the grandest networks of open space among US urban areas
