The legacy of one of the region’s oldest conservation groups, whose grassroots activism and regional thinking have helped shape the way the Bay Area looks today, celebrated its half-century of achievements at Herbst International Exhibition Hall in the San Francisco Presidio. “It was an amazing evening,” Greenbelt Alliance Executive Director Jeremy Madsen said of the event last Wednesday. “We appreciate all the people who came out on our behalf to celebrate our fifty years of success. That support and enthusiasm carries us forward, as we begin the next era of our work to make the Bay Area a model for fair and sustainable living.” Greenbelt Alliance’s big-picture approach promotes sustainable urban development — smart growth—as well as land conservation. This unique approach is more important than ever in a time of high gas prices and a changing climate. ### |
