Series: Green Development in Silicon Valley

Subheading

Jason Bennert

Green development has become a major issue in Silicon Valley. San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed has made his "Green Vision" for the city the centerpiece of his first term. KLIV examines what green development means in Silicon Valley and where advocates say it is being done well.

True green development is about much more than building materials. “People think about low-flow shower heads or compact fluorescent lightbulbs,” says Marla Wilson of Greenbelt Alliance. “But really what it all comes down to is if you still can only get to that place by driving, then how green is it really? You still have that carbon footprint that comes from living a car-oriented life.”
