Press ReleaseMay 5, 2005 Contact: Go Greenbelt! Bay Area Bike Tour Rides Through Threatened Land, Helps Save It
Photo Opportunities San Francisco - Against a backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin's still-green headlands, more than 50 brightly dressed bicyclists will set out on Greenbelt Alliance's sixteenth annual Go Greenbelt! bicycle tour through all nine counties of the Bay Area. The launch of the ride will be at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 8th."On Go Greenbelt!, we ride through lands we've saved, lands we've lost to sprawl development, and lands we still have a chance to save," said Steve Van Landingham, Greenbelt Alliance's Development Director, who has done the ride for the past nine years. "Go Greenbelt! combines incredible scenery and challenging rides with a chance to do something to protect the land you're riding through." Every year, the riders don bright jerseys and set out on a 480-mile, weeklong tour of the region to take stock of threats to the Bay Area's greenbelt of farms and natural areas, raising funds and awareness as they go. The ride starts and ends in San Francisco, stopping in places like Morgan Hill, Livermore, Fairfield, and Olema. There are several excellent press opportunities along the way, including:
