BART Tour of East Bay Cities: “What Makes Cities Work”

An East Bay tour of great communities close to BART

Last September, the City of San Leandro adopted a plan for the neighborhood around its BART station. This plan provides an opportunity to build new homes, jobs, and shops to create a vibrant, walkable community close to transit.

To envision how the plan could transform San Leandro, Greenbelt Alliance and local partners have organized a BART tour of several other successful and upcoming developments in Oakland, Hayward, and Union City for San Leandro decision-makers and members of the community.

When: 10:00am – 3:00pm, Saturday, April 12, 2008

Where: San Leandro BART Station, 1401 San Leandro Blvd, San Leandro

Who: Greenbelt Alliance with the Great Communities Collaborative

The Great Communities Collaborative is a unique cooperative relationship between four Bay Area nonprofit organizations—Greenbelt Alliance, the Nonprofit Housing Association of Northern California, the Transportation and Land Use Coalition, and Urban Habitat—as well as Reconnecting America, the East Bay Community Foundation, and The San Francisco Foundation. The collaborative brings together residents and local organizations to participate in community planning processes across the Bay Area. We want to create a region of vibrant neighborhoods with affordable homes, shops, jobs, and services within convenient walking distance of transit. www.greatcommunities.org.
