Imagining a Vibrant El Camino

Take a bus tour to conceive a smarter future
for the grand boulevard of San Mateo County

What:     Urban Outing focusing on El Camino Real

When you stroll down El Camino Real in 20 years, what do you want to see? Hop on the bus with Greenbelt Alliance and partners for a visionary tour of what this grand boulevard could be. Participants will visit South San Francisco, San Bruno, and San Mateo to look at how good urban plans can create inviting neighborhoods. Lunch will be provided.

When: 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010

Where: Meet at Public Plaza, South San Francisco BART Station

Why:   El Camino is among seven smart spots around the Bay Area where new homes and jobs are a natural fit. In fact, this vital corridor can comfortably accommodate 14% of the region’s growth. Our tour will profile affordable homes near transit, opportunities for better pedestrian connections, and thriving downtown areas. Connecting 19 cities and towns, El Camino can become a “Grand Boulevard” of homes, jobs, shops, and parks, linked by a thriving transit network.

Who: Greenbelt Alliance with the Grand Boulevard Initiative, Sierra Club, SamTrans, and the Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County.

This bus tour kicks off the annual Affordable Housing Week.
