Your Community, Your Health
A lot of people don’t think about it, but how your community is designed has a HUGE effect on how you live. Can you walk to where you need to go, or do you have to drive? Is there a park in your neighborhood? How about a corner store that sells something other than junk food, alcohol, and cigarettes?
Wanting to be healthy is a good first step. But it’s important to realize that our County and cities play a big role in how easy, or difficult, it is to lead a healthy lifestyle.
What changes do you want to see in your community that would make it easier to be more active, healthier, and happier? Tell your local elected officials. It’s a great time to help shape the future of your community since Santa Clara County is currently creating a Health Element as part of its General Plan, a blueprint for how the county will grow.
Not sure what to say? Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Less fast food and more healthy food options
