Place:
Briones Reservoir, EBMUD Watershed
Orinda, Contra Costa County

Keep cool with a shady hike on the Bear Creek Trail above Briones Reservoir. As we walk, we’ll share some nature tidbits about the native trees and shrubs we see along the trail and learn the fate of the poor bear for whom the creek is named.

The hills to the west, once threatened with development, were preserved for future generations in one of Greenbelt Alliance’s earliest open space campaign victories. This is a one-way hike with a car shuttle.

Outing Leaders:
Ken Lavin
Liz Watson
Total Distance:
This is a moderate hike of four miles with a few hundred feet elevation change.
Weather Policy:

Rain cancels.

Where to Meet:

We’ll assemble at the Overlook Trail Staging Area in Orinda.

Leaders Note:

Bring water, snacks, dress in layers and bring hiking poles if you normally use them. Dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes. This is a one-way hike with a short car shuttle. Questions? Contact Ken Lavin at klavin@greenbelt.org or 415-543-6771 x321.
