Buffer Zone

A transitional area of land between two distinct land uses or types used to lessen the impact of one land use type on another. For example, a commercial area that borders a residential neighorhood may be subject to additional restrictions on height, noise, or fencing requirements to insulate the neighborhood from the effects of the commercial zone.
