OUR PROMISE

Over Greenbelt Alliance’s nearly 70-year history, we have stewarded the Bay Area’s beautiful natural landscapes while promoting the growth needed to create thriving communities for generations to come. As a result, today, almost 3.3 million acres of the Bay Area’s nine counties are protected open spaces. But our region has a major problem. We aren’t ready for climate change. So Greenbelt Alliance is rising to the challenge by leveraging our decades of experience to educate, advocate for bold change, and collaborate across sectors to address the climate crisis.

Greenbelt Alliance provides trusted regional coordination, deep community accountability, technical and policy fluency, equity-centered engagement and training, and long-term stewardship beyond individual projects. Partnering Through Services

Regional Governance: Convenes collaboratives, supports governance structures, aligns policies and investments, and facilitates cross-sector coordination to enable regional climate action.

Capacity Building: Provides technical assistance, funding strategy support, institutional readiness support, and peer learning networks to strengthen long-term organizational capacity.

Grassroots Community Engagement: Partners with frontline communities through multilingual engagement, trusted CBO partnerships, place-based facilitation, and transparent feedback loops to ensure community priorities shape decisions.

Educational Training and Workforce Development: Develops leadership cohorts, youth and community training programs, applied learning tied to real projects, and pathways into climate and resilience careers.

Marketing and Strategic Communications: Develops narrative strategy, coalition-building communications, visual storytelling, and policy-supportive campaigns to build alignment and momentum for climate action.

Technical pieces policy: Translates complex regulatory frameworks, land use policy, and climate legislation into actionable guidance for agencies, partners, and communities. Drawing on deep regional expertise, Greenbelt Alliance analyzes policy gaps, evaluates implementation pathways, and provides technical input that grounds planning decisions in both scientific rigor and community reality.

State legislation: Monitors, analyzes, and engages on state legislation shaping climate resilience, land use, and environmental justice across California. With established relationships at the state level and a track record of coalition building, we help agencies and partners understand legislative implications, align local priorities with state mandates, and position their work to capture emerging funding opportunities.
