Online Donations & Gift Matching
Many companies have a matching gift program for current and retired employees. All you have to do is ask. First, make a donation and be sure to keep your receipt. Many corporate matching programs will give you up to one year after your donation to request a match. Then, we’ll help you find your company’s matching gift program. It’s that easy!
Ask your broker to contact us and provide your name, the stock name and ticker symbol, and the number of shares you’re donating. Then, they should contact Brian Callahan at Charles Schwab 415-263-4380 or email@example.com to credit the gift to Greenbelt Alliance DTC: 0164, Acct. #7220-1741.
Your tax advisor and broker can advise on tax deductibility and transfer timing.

More Ways To Give
CARES Act and Charitable Giving
The CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act is designed to help you, businesses and nonprofits facing economic hardship during the coronavirus pandemic. Some key provisions are set to expire at year’s end. The law, explained by a charitable planning attorney can be found here.
Required Minimum Distributions Suspended
The new law temporarily suspends the requirements for required minimum distributions (RMD) for the 2020 tax year. This probably comes as a relief to many of you who would have had to withdraw from your retirement accounts. Many of our donors use their RMD to make a gift from their IRA. Despite the RMD suspension, remember that if you are 70½ or older, you can still make a gift from your IRA or name The Trust for Public Land as a beneficiary.
New Tax Incentives
The CARES Act expands charitable giving incentives and allows taxpayers who take the standard deduction to make up to $300 of charitable contributions to qualified charities this year. You might think that this is a small amount and would not make a difference. But what if all of our donors gave “just” $300? Such support would have a huge impact on those we serve.
For those who do itemize their deductions, the new law allows for cash contributions to qualified charities such as Greenbelt Alliance to be deducted up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for the 2020 calendar year.
Donate While You Shop
AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support Greenbelt Alliance every time you shop. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to us. Go to smile.amazon.com, choose Greenbelt Alliance as your current charity, and when you make a purchase 0.5% of the cost will be given to us from the AmazonSmile Foundation. Learn more.
Donate A Vehicle
Why settle for a low trade-in on your used car, boat, RV—or any vehicle? Instead, support the cause you love. By donating your vehicle, you’ll help Greenbelt Alliance and qualify for a bigger tax deduction. For more information or to get started on your vehicle donation visit our partner page at CARS. They’ll even pick it up for you! Get details about the process here.
IRA Charitable Rollover Gifts (Qualified Charitable Distributions)
If you are 70½ years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to benefit Greenbelt Alliance and receive tax benefits in return. You can give any amount up to $100,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as ours without having to pay income taxes on the money. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.
IRA Rollover gifts are easy to arrange. Simply direct your plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA account directly to Greenbelt Alliance (Tax ID – 94-1676747) and contact us to indicate you are making a gift. Please include your name, the name of your IRA administrator, and the amount of your distribution.
