Amanda’s (She/Her) strategic vision for Greenbelt Alliance and the Bay Area as a whole are informed by her experience in advocating for well-planned cities and towns and the protection of our region’s iconic greenbelt lands.
Prior to this role, Amanda oversaw Resilient by Design—a design challenge that saw local communities partner with design professionals and other stakeholders in search of innovative ways to strengthen the Bay Area’s resilience in the face of increasing sea level rise. The project captivated the Bay Area and the nation at large, drawing lengthy coverage in the San Francisco Chronicle, KQED, Next City, Fast Company, the Houston Chronicle, and many other publications.
Amanda’s distinctive approach is built in part on a deep familiarity with the work and mission of Greenbelt Alliance. Starting in 2006, she spent 7 years with our organization, ultimately serving as Deputy Director by the time of her departure in 2013. Subsequently, she helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars to improve and support communities throughout California. The public finance measures she worked on included funding to permanently preserve iconic landscapes around the region, restore essential habitat for fish and wildlife, and increase public access to open space for the Bay Area’s growing population.
Amanda holds a B.A. in Latin American Studies from Wesleyan University and an M.P.P. from the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. She lives with her family in Oakland, a city she has loved since her time as Chief of Staff to Oakland City Councilmember Nancy Nadel in the early 2000s.
