Meet Doug

Doug Johnson serves as the Board Treasurer & Finance Chair of Greenbelt Alliance’s Board of Directors.

Doug Johnson is an accomplished transportation leader and community planner with more than 20 years of planning, analysis, policy, and funding experience.

Doug is currently the Principal Transportation Planner at Jacobs, a consulting supporting public agencies doing diverse transportation planning projects across the West. He also teaches Transportation Planning in San Jose’ States Master of Science in Transportation Management program.

Doug previously was the Transportation Planning Manager at the San Francisco Planning Department. In this role, he served as Project Manager for ConnectSF, a multi-agency collaboration focused on planning and building an effective, equitable, and sustainable transportation system for San Francisco’s future. Prior to joining the SF Planning, Doug spent 15 years at the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) in on critical regional planning and funding programs including the first Plan Bay Area, directing millions annually in grant awards for active transportation and compact development, the creation of the $50 million Bay Area Transit Oriented Affordable Housing (TOAH) fund, and low-income and minority community planning and grant programs. Doug was also a founder of Walk Oakland Bike Oakland.

Born and raised in Contra Costa, Doug grew up benefiting from the committed work of the Greenbelt Alliance in its efforts to preserve wild and open spaces and support the region’s working lands. He now resides in Waimea, Hawaii.
