A carbon sink is a place that absorbs more carbon than it releases. Forests are an example of a carbon sink as they take carbon out of the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis. The ocean is another example as it absorbs a large amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (National Geographic).
