Augustín Tafoya

Meet Gus

As the Solano Communications Fellow for Greenbelt Alliance, Gus leverages their expertise in film, radio, and visual arts to elevate community engagement and awareness through strategic digital storytelling and outreach in Solano County.

Augustín Tafoya (Gus) is a filmmaker, writer and artist born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They graduated from the Media Arts Collaborative Charter School with a concentration in film and the visual arts and completed their Bachelor of Arts in Film Production at the University of New Mexico. Since graduating, they’ve continued their own filmmaking journey and produced and directed short films, video essays, and short documentaries and pursued continuing opportunities in screenwriting fellowships and film intensives.

Gus has committed to working in and for their community, investing themselves in Public Media Station KUNM as a Programming Assistant, as an Apprentice for Art & Social Justice through Harwood Art Center, and as Project Manager for Risolana community risograph studio. Gus has over four years of professional media production experience and worked on projects committed to evocative, specific storytelling. They are also well versed in a number of technical skills including technical writing, digital editing, graphic design, and broadcast hosting and engineering. In the future, they hope to continue producing new works that are guided by their Hispanic identity and better forward the understanding and situation of the contemporary New Mexican.
