Hidden Heroes of the Greenbelt 2022: Honoring Bay Area Climate Champions

On September 29, Greenbelt Alliance hosted our annual benefit: Hidden Heroes of the Greenbelt. This year’s benefit featured both a virtual premiere and an in-person celebration. Thanks to our amazing community of supporters, we raised crucial funds in support of our work to educate, advocate, and collaborate to ensure the Bay Area’s lands and communities are resilient to a changing climate.

Our Hidden Heroes award honors bold leaders in local government working to ensure greater climate resilience for the Bay Area. Their stories were inspiring and their contributions will leave a legacy of positive impact throughout the region. We’re thrilled to have had such a fantastic group of heroes this year:

  • Christine Reed | Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal, Central County Fire Department
  • Dr. Hoi-Fei Mok | Sustainability Manager, City of San Leandro
  • Erin Morris | Community Development Director, City of Vacaville

During the virtual celebration, we premiered three short films that told each hero’s story, highlighting the impact they’re making in communities throughout the region. Watch the short films here:

Happy Hour at the Academy

The in-person celebration was a wonderful success! Supporters from all across the Bay Area gathered at the California Academy of Sciences to mingle, enjoy live music, explore the museum, and most importantly, celebrate our Hidden Heroes. Amanda Brown-Stevens, our Executive Director, discussed the ways in which Greenbelt Alliance’s mission amplifies and supports the critical work of our Heroes.
We’re so glad that we were able to gather our supporters in person this year and celebrate our shared vision to create a more climate-resilient Bay Area.
