Agricultural Land Advocate Volker Eisele Has Passed Away

Volker Eisele

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Volker Eisele. He died on Friday, January 2, 2014 at the age of 77.

Volker served on the Greenbelt Alliance Board of Directors for many years and was a tireless advocate for the protection of Napa County’s agricultural lands. A grape grower himself, he is perhaps best known as the architect behind Measure J, which helped shape the Napa County that we know and love today. Measure J requires that the conversion of agricultural land in the county to other uses has to be approved by a vote of the people, much to the chagrin of sprawl developers. In 2008, the measure was extended through 2058, so Volker’s legacy of farmland protection lives on.

The driving force behind all of Volker’s accomplishments was his passion. And for that, he will truly be missed.
