At Greenbelt Alliance, we know that, at the local level, housing solutions are climate solutions. Increasing housing access and affordability in our existing communities helps us preserve the nature around us and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Our 2025 Abundant SMART Housing Hidden Hero—San Francisco Citywide Planning Director, Rachael Tanner—explains the benefits of infill housing as a climate and land-use policy solution. Watch video:
On August 14, we were excited to share more about this work with our supporters in Marin County. Hosted at Steve Silberstein’s beautiful Belvedere home, the gathering elevated the importance of coalitions and forward-looking housing policy in advancing affordable communities, protecting biodiversity, and building climate resilience.
Our State and Regional Resilience Manager, Jordan Grimes, shared the latest updates from Sacramento. This year, Greenbelt Alliance is deeply engaged in this movement through state legislation advocacy, including co-sponsoring SB 79 and our strong engagement with the Alliance for Housing and Climate Solutions. We’re fortunate to have a strong base of community members, government officials, and donors supporting us in this fight.
We heard how advancing bold housing policy is a unique and urgent opportunity, one that will shape whether our children can afford to stay in the communities they love, whether our cities flourish, whether biodiversity and habitats endure, and whether we meet the climate crisis with resilience.
Greenbelt Alliance acts as a facilitator for these difficult conversations, bringing housing and environmental advocates to the same table. Too often, these worlds speak different languages. We bridge that gap so both can see how deeply their futures are connected.
With strong coalitions and bold leadership, we can chart a new path. We’re especially excited to expand this work into Marin County, where we’ll soon welcome our first Marin County Resilience Manager to offer continued support in that region.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for these important conversations. If you’d like to learn more, please reach out to Jordan Grimes, State and Regional Resilience Manager, at jgrimes@greenbelt.org
